Calico cat fact

Calico cat is the domestic cat and it is very pretty cat. Most of people like to keep this cat at home. But it is not found easily.  Its colour is very attractive and charming. Calico cat has a spot on mouth and whole fur. It is spotted cat and parti-colored coat that is predominantly white with patches of two other colour like orange and black. It is very expensive cat.

In many country this calico cat has many names and to call this cat by various names. In the North America this calico cat called usually white and tortoiseshell.  In Canada this cat sometime called the chatte d'Espagne. Many other names of calico cat including brindle, tricolor cat, tobi mike etc.

Calico cat fur is white and white fur is coated with two colours that’s why this cat looking soo lovely. Calico cat with diluted coloration have been called calimance and clouded tiger.

Mostly calico cat has three colour and this tri colour calico combined with tabby patterning.

Manx, shorthair, British shorthair, Turkish van and Norwegian forest cat are the best breed and among these breed are allow the standard calico coloration.

Genetic of Calico cat of coat colour is depend upon the link to X chromosome. Calicoes cat breed has mostly always the female. It has mix colour fur that is depend upon the link chromosome. One colour linked with meternal X chromosome and second colour linked with paternal X chromosome. It’s because calico cat male has only one X chromosome. It is very rare condition that calico male cat has three sex chromosome  mean that two X chromosome and one Y chromosome.Some calico male cat has no X and Y chromosomes these male cat has often sterile.  This type of calico male cat is known as dilute cat and this dilute male cat is not necessary for increase the breed.

Two calico cat with different marking:

Calico cat mostly has black, cream coloured and yellowish marking. In addition the calico cat has white spotting gene.

According to rule of thumb calico has the larger part of white, fewer patches of ginger and black tabby coat. Calico male cat has ginger coat and female cat also has ginger colour. Calico coat produced the particularly telling map. Only female, X or chromosome has the colour of orange mutant gene.

Same like human calico female cats have paired the sex chromosome XX, and male calico cat have both XY chromosome. Therefore female calico cat has orange mutant genetic on one X chromosome and the gene for the black coat on other.

It is impossible to reproduce the fur pattern calico cat by cloning.

There is clear physiological different between calico female cat and calico male cat.

Folklore:

This coloration of calico cat breed believed that this coloration has bring the good luck in folklore in many culture.
In the United States, these are sometimes referred to as money cats. A cat of the calico coloration is also the state cat of Maryland in the United States.

 In the late nineteenth century, Eugene Field published "The Duel", a beloved poem for children also known as "The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat".

In Japan, the Maneki-neko figures depict calico cats, bringing good luck; and Japanese sailors often had a calico ship's cat to protect against misfortune at sea.
